The early mornings
Waking up early to live more
I don’t necessarily love waking up early, but I do love the mornings.
So I do it—(almost) every day.
There’s nothing like the stillness of the morning.
It’s the calm before the storm.
It’s a time to check in with yourself, and with your body.
No messages, no calls, no notifications.
No one telling you what to do, or where to be.
Your only demand in life is to be. There as you are. Life is good.
You want to read, write, stretch, medidate, breathe, go on a walk, do some creative work? All uninterrupted? This is the time.
We only have so much energy in the day. And we expend that precious energy on all the demands in our life. It’s nice to tap into that energy store early in the day and expend it on ourselves.
This is your time. You choose. That’s the best part.
Outside, there are no loud noises.
No cars revving their engine, no honking, no lawn-mowing.
You get the pleasant sounds of the birds chirping, the wind blowing on the leaves, bushes, and trees.
You get the scent of the fresh morning dew on the grass and plants.
You get to feel the cool air, humid or crisp, that makes you want to bundle up in layers. And when you let out a slow, warm breath, you get to see it transform to vapor.
You get to feel the warmness of the sun on your face. You close your eyes and you just let that heat of the sun refill your energy stores. You embrace it, and it embraces you. Its warmth is like that of what you feel when you hug your grandma. You get to say thank you to the sun for keeping us alive.
Morning time is the best time for consistency—for routine.
If you push items off for later in the day, chances are the demands of life will push them away too.
You never know what the day will bring, but you can at least have some control over how it begins.
So, you start the day with a win. There’s nothing like starting the day having conquered one of your goals.
You woke up early, you did something good, you did something hard.
You do it repeatedly, and you become someone who does hard things.
You boost your self-confidence and self-esteem. You get the feeling that you can do anything.
A good morning translates into a good day.
When you have a good morning, the rest of the day feels like a bonus.
When you make that time for yourself before the chaos of the day unfolds, you are acknowledging your being. You are something worth caring for.
You are creating space for yourself…
The stillness of the morning brings you deeper into the present moment—into nature, both outside us and inside us.
You don’t have to be a “morning person” to wake up early.
It may be hard, but it is worth it.
